
Career Development Specialist
Competencies
Summary/Objective
Charged with providing workforce development support for an area community college focused on manufacturing, training, and employment placement. Responsible for assisting customers through career coaching and job readiness training during pursuit of higher education coursework and certification in the manufacturing sector as well as assisting them with obtaining employment. To drive the responsibilities and outcomes for the assigned program, will act as a partner in the development and maintenance of relationships with regional employers.
Essential Functions
- Assesses customer’s career goals and related experience, education, and work history
- Provides and arranges services that supports the customer’s preparedness for employment
- Matches customers with job orders available on a continuous basis
- Provides ongoing career counseling, advice, and related case management services to support customer development, job placement, and retention
- Works closely with Business Account Executives (BAE) with follow-up of referred customers
- Ensures all case notes are completed daily, ensuring quality control and sources and identifies job leads
- Assists with all program audits
- Reviews files for assigned customers to ensure files are accurate based on program compliance and procedures
- Conducts retention checks with employers on all successfully completed customers and assure all retentions are case noted and contacts are made as required to customers
- Trains and presents topics associated with job readiness and job searching
- Develops, coordinates and implements best practices as needed
Skills and Experience
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in job placement and training
- Experience in higher education and/or business development is preferred
- Excellent communication and relationship building skills
- Organized and strong attention to details
- Knowledge of the private sector and its employment needs
- Good advocacy and job matching skills
- Experience working with diverse, at risk, and vulnerable populations
- Ability to inspire and encourage others
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
- Proven track record in delivering on performance goals and metrics
Physical Demands
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. This is a field role with a need to perform clerical and administrative duties in a physical office. Role requires an extensive amount of mobility.
Hours of Work
Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Position requires the ability to work evenings and weekends as needed.
Reporting Relationships
This position reports to the Senior Regional Director and works in collaboration with E&ES & Daley College staff.
Education
Bachelor’s degree preferred OR 3-5 years of related experience
